Description
Amoxycillin (Augmentin 625 – Augmentin 625 Duo) 500/125 mg tablet is a derivative of penicillin G, an antibacterial medication used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It is also used to treat stomach ulcers caused by a form of bacteria known as Helicobacter pylori, along with other medicines. Amoxycillin may also be used to treat other conditions as decided by your doctor.

How To Take Amoxycillin (Augmentin 625 – Augmentin 625 Duo) 500/125 mg
Amoxycillin may be taken with or without food. It is best to take it with food to minimise stomach discomfort.
Amoxycillin is available as an oral tablet, capsule or oral suspension.
If you are taking the delayed-release, prolonged-release, sustained-release or extended-release type of tablet (may be labelled “ER”), swallow it whole. Do not divide, chew or crush the tablet. It is best to take it within 1 hour of the meal.
Amoxycillin must be taken at regular intervals for it to be effective. Continue to take this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Take Amoxycillin exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Dosage of Amoxycillin (Augmentin 625 – Augmentin 625 Duo) 500/125 mg
Susceptible infections: 250-500 mg 8 hourly or 500-875 mg 12 hourly.
Uncomplicated gonorrhea: 3 g as single dose with probenecid.
Dental abscesses: 3 g, repeat once after 8 hours.
Uncomplicated acute UTI: 3 g, repeat once after 10-12 hours.
Prophylaxis of endocarditis: 2 g as a single dose, 1 hour before surgical procedure.
Severe or recurrent respiratory tract infections: 3 g twice a day.
H. pylori infection: 750 mg or 1,000 mg twice a day or 500 mg three times a day, with either metronidazole or clarithromycin and a proton pump inhibitor.
Tonsillitis; Pharyngitis: As extended-release tab: 775 mg/day for 10 days.
Missed Amoxycillin (Augmentin 625 – Augmentin 625 Duo) 500/125 mg
If you often forget to take your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your usual dosing schedule.
Do not double a dose under any circumstances.
Overdose
Signs of overdose may include the following:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
Seek medical help immediately.
Contraindications
People with the following medical conditions should not take Amoxycillin:
- Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin and other penicillins

Warnings of Amoxycillin (Augmentin 625 – Augmentin 625 Duo) 500/125 mg
Alert your doctor if you have a history of allergic reactions to penicillin antibiotics and cephalosporin antibiotics.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- Probenecid
- Allopurinol
- Methotrexate
- Warfarin
- Chloramphenicol
- Erythromycin
- Tetracycline
- Birth-control pills.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.

Storage Conditions
- Store between 20-25°C.
- Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children. Protect from light and moisture.
- Do not use Amoxycillin that is expired or out of expiry date.
