How to use

Squeeze out a thin layer of halovate cream on clean fingers or cotton applicator stick and apply on the affected area in gentle strokes. Do not apply the medicine on large areas of the skin unless prescribed by the physician.

Do not cover the area of the skin being treated. Covering treated areas will increase the amount of medicine absorbed through your skin and may cause harmful effects.

Use halobetasol exactly as directed and at the same time each day. Do not use more or less of it or use it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Dosage of Halobetasol (Halovate Cream) 0.05% Cream

Wash the affected area with soap and water. Apply a thin film into the affected area twice a day.

Missed Dose of Halobetasol (Halovate Cream) 0.05% Cream

Just apply the missed dose and then continue with the regular dosing schedule. 

Do not double the dose under any circumstances.

Overdose of Halobetasol (Halovate Cream) 0.05% Cream

If you applied Halobetasol more than the prescribed dose, seek immediate medical help immediately.

Contraindications

People with the following medical conditions should not use Halobetasol:

  • Hypersensitivity to any of the components of Halobetasol
  • Tuberculosis 
  • Chickenpox
  • Herpes simplex
  • Measles
  • Perioral dermatitis
  • Acne rosacea/Vulgaris
  • Syphilitic skin lesions
  • Untreated bacterial, fungal and viral skin lesions
  • Pregnancy
  • Children 12 years old and younger

Side Effects

Halobetasol may have the following side effects:

  • Stinging and burning sensation on the area of application
  • Itchiness on the area 

Warnings

Inform your physician if you are taking over the counter medications and other vitamin supplements.

This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Halobetasol.

How Does It Work?

Halobetasol promotes the initiation of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins, subsequently inhibiting the release of arachidonic acid, thereby impairing the formation, release, and activity of endogenous chemical mediators inflammation such as leukotrienes, histamines, and prostaglandins.

Uses 

Halobetasol is used to treat the following conditions:

  • Relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses

Special Precautions and Connected Warnings

Take special precautions if you have the following conditions:

  • Not for use in the eyes, mouth and vaginal area 
  • Avoid applying over large areas of the body. Avoid contact with face, axillae, perianal region, genitalia, eyes and mucous membranes
  • Discontinue treatment if irritation develops
  • Patients with a history of allergic-type responses to other topical or oral corticosteroids
  • History of preexisting skin atrophy and peripheral vascular disease
  • Diabetes
  • History of immunosuppression and immunocompromised patient
  • Concomitant use with systemic antifungal or steroid treatment
  • Lactation

Storage Conditions

  • Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze.
  • Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
  • Do not use Halobetasol that is expired or out of date.
