How Does It Work?
Ethinylestradiol and drospirenone work by suppressing ovulation by negative feedback mechanism on the hypothalamus, which changes the secretion of normal gonadotropin pattern of Follicle Stimulating Hormone and Luteinizing Hormone by the anterior pituitary gland, thereby blocking the follicular FSH phase and the midcycle surge of gonadotropins. The changes in cervical mucus and the endometrium leads to the inhibition of sperm penetration and unfavorable environment for nidation, respectively.
